Here is an update on the Spam attack on my blog. I’m now FREE of Spam! What a relief!

Thanks to recommendations from Twitter, I’m now using WP-SPAMFREE. It is all I need to block spam. Unlike some of the other plugins I tried, they don’t block valid links. There is very little to configure which makes it easy for beginners. I encourage people to set WP-SPAMFREE for automatic updates so that the program is always the latest version.

I’ve now setup and configured Akismet, Cookies for Comments and Simple Trackback Validation. These plug-ins should help prevent spam getting through.

This has been a learning experience. I hope this will help you avoid the problem in the first place. I have just heard of a couple of blog owners who were spammed so badly that they had to completely take down their sites and start from scratch. I’m grateful that I caught the problem early.
